1957 Miss University District
The Miss University District (or Miss U, for short) was an unique approach to hull design. While conventional thinking of design at the time utilized the 3-point suspension design, the U-24 more closely resembled a seaplane—a ‘vee-hull’ and short wings with outrigger sponsons, combined with a large tail and delta-shaped horizontal stabilizer. Models yielded positive results with stability and speed but full-size version failed to meet those expectations. Underpowered due to an inability to secure a turbine power plant, the Miss U failed to qualify for its only race entered.
